Today we looked at viruses and why they are not living. We also compared a virus to a cell.
Students worked in groups today to compare our school building to a plant cell. The first example was the Cell Wall. Students were able to tell me that the cell wall protects and gives shape to a plant cell. They chose the outside walls to represent this part of the cell. They worked through the rest of the organelles found in a plant cell and recorded their results in their notebook. After labeling the school, students were asked to write one sentence about why they chose each location for the organelles.
Students finished up their cell drawings and we spent some time discussing the major differences between a plant cell and an animal cell. They created a Venn Diagram to remember these similarities and differences.
Just a few students needed to finish up some of the vocabulary. Students worked on drawing the plant, animal and bacteria cell. We will use these drawings to compare the organelles.
Students took their test on the Six Kingdoms of Living Things and finished up working on the Cell vocabulary
We began our cell unit today. We started with the Essential Questions that will be covered through this unit. Students also worked on the vocabulary that will be used daily throughout the unit.
This week has been a bit crazy with the 7th grade schedule so I'm going to do a quick update on what we covered this week. Monday, Nov 2-We worked on the Caminacules dichotomous key that we started on Friday. Students are doing really well with identifying differences between them. Tuesday, Nov 3-We worked on the study guide for the test on Kingdoms. See the document at the bottom of this post Wednesday, Nov 4-We played "Trash Ball" to review for our test. The test will be on Tuesday Nov 10. Thursday and Friday the group from the North Jefferson Women's Center was here with the program Boundaries. |
