Friday was our test on the Atom and Periodic Table. We will be going over those next week.
We will be starting our Compounds Mini Unit before we fully get into chemical reactions and chemical equations.
On Thursday, we reviewed the atom and periodic table through a review "trash ball" game.

Atom and Periodic Table Test on Friday, October 30
Students began the writing portion of our task that we began two weeks ago. As we have gone through this unit, they have learned the information necessary to identify where an element would be located on the periodic table. They worked on their general outline using a graphic organizer and some began writing their full article. These will be due Monday, November 2 but may be turned in before then as they are finished. REMINDER-Do not tell me what your element is. You are concentrating on where your element is located on the periodic table and then why and how you know that. Test on Friday on the Atom and Periodic Table Today we spent the period reviewing the work that the students did on Friday to review for our test coming up this Friday. Tomorrow we will begin the writing process and completing our task for the atom and periodic table.
We watched part 2 of Hunting for the Elements. Students learned about what elements make up the human body as well as rare earth metals.
Today and tomorrow will have my regular classes and my honors class on a different path so make sure you are reading the part of this post that is your class.
I do apologize for the absence but due to updates to this website, I was not able to make any posts. To update where we are today:
10/1-Test on Matter 10/2-Task Engagement and Task Analysis 10/5-Students finished up the Task Analysis and the Atom & Periodic Table Vocabulary 10/6-We reviewed the Vocabulary words and as we did we drew the atom, its parts and a box from the periodic table. 10/7-We practiced Identifying Atomic number, mass number, proton, electron and neutron. Students also set up the Atomic Theory chart in their notebook. 10/8-Students had their Friday Five on finding the AN, MN, & PEN. After the quiz, students worked on the Atomic theory and the scientists that discovered the different parts 10/9-Eday-Students watched the video "Just How Small is an Atom" and answered 4 questions about the video 10/12- We completed the atomic theory chart & the timeline of the scientists and their discoveries 10/13-Students worked on an atomic review to identify the AN, MN, & PEN for different elements. They also looked at the electron diagram(Bohr model) for atoms and how to draw them. 10/14-They completed a card sort to connects the scientists of the atomic theory with the discovery that they made as well as a quiz on drawing an atom and correctly identifying its parts. 10/15-We used an article on the periodic table to identify the major sections and labels of the periodic table such as periods, groups/families, metals, nonmetals, metalloids, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, lanthanides, actinides, halogens, and noble gases. 10/16-We watched Hunting for the Elements Part 1 to get a better look at the periodic table and the elements. |
